5 Biggest Job Search Mistakes

5 biggest job search mistakes

The 5 biggest job search mistakes I see in experienced professionals are:

1) Your resume is an archive of what you've done, not a signal of what you want to attract.

2) Your verbal storytelling isn't compelling. Too much rambling, too chronological, tinted with a little negativity, not tailored to the audience. This is the greatest gap I see among experienced professionals.

3) Your search is focused too much online, not enough human connection.

4) You're unrealistically impatient. If you're going to be selective about company, role, salary, location, expect this to take some time. Mentally prepare for 6-12 months depending on how specific your requirements are.

5) Your LinkedIn profile is only an electronic resume. Be strategic about likes, shares, and posts to signal your personal brand.
