#1 Job Interviewing Risk
#1 job interview risk
Your resume, LI profile, and interview stories are all OPEN DOORS showing who you are and how you add value. These doors invite people into your house of experiences and help showcase your unique style.
But, but, but...when it comes to asking the interviewer questions, we're too often a CRACKED WINDOW. We're letting in a little fresh air, but we have a screen to keep the bugs out. In other words, we come across a bit testy, not all in.
A testy tone may be cutting you out of the interview process too early. There's a strategic time and place for questions when you're interviewing. Let me demonstrate:
ASK THIS WAY IF YOU WANT THE INTERVIEWER TO SQUIRM:
"One company core value is Integrity. When has your integrity been challenged, and how did the company work through that with you?"
ASK THIS WAY IF YOU WANT TO SHOW OFF WITH A LITTLE ATTITUDE:
"It's seem odd to me to have this role report to X? How was that decision made?"
ASK THIS WAY IF YOU WANT TO DISMISS THEIR CURRENT NEEDS:
"How will this role position me for the next level?"
Of course, you'll need to ask more interrogative questions during the hiring game to make a good decision, but if you're asking testy questions too early, you're likely asking yourself out of a job offer.
There is a strategic time and place for questions when you're interviewing. A coach can help.
