Career Zigzags

Zigzag in your career wisely.

'Climbing the career ladder' has become a tainted phrase, a symbol of clawing for someone else's definition of success.

"Building a career portfolio' is where we follow our curiosity, embrace lateral moves, and connect the dots of our strengths in creative ways.

I personally LOVE the move to 'building career portfolios.' Mine is more of a zigzag. Just recognize two things as you're weaving:

--in some orgs, zigzags are celebrated, even encouraged, for personal growth and to enhance value for the organization (they get you)

--in other orgs, zigzags delay promotions and financial rewards because the path is unusual (they don't quite know what to do with you)
