Hang with the Wrong People

I want to hang with the wrong people.

The power in admitting when we’re wrong

A recent NY Times initiative shared reporters admitting their incorrect predictions and bad advice. They admit they were wrong and share how new information and perspectives helped them change their minds.

As leaders, admitting we're wrong proves we are learning. Recognizing mistakes shows we’re objective, not obstinate. Being willing to change our minds in the face of new information conveys leadership compassion, critical thinking, and listening skills.

We are quick at work to say "let's fail fast," and “there are no bad ideas here." Let's be equally quick to celebrate, "I was wrong." Neuroscience even shows that mistakes grow the brain.

I hope you hang with the wrong people too.
