Retire...Literally...Re-tire
When I retired at 52 from a 20-year corporate career at a fabulous company, the typical reaction was, “But what are going to do with yourself? You’re too young to retire.” I had to remind people of my definition of retiring. Re-tiring, as in get fresh tires for the new road I’m paving.
I encourage a mindset of re-tiring to stay fresh and relevant for the future you want to have. Be in motion TO something, not FROM something.
As 2021 comes into view, how will you be re-tiring? If you’re wondering how to get started with this question, consider the following steps:
1) Start with your Core Values. What are the core beliefs and behaviors that guide the most important decisions you make?
2) What is your Personal Brand? What do people think and feel when they hear your name?
3) How can your current Network help you. People want to help people, so don’t be shy about asking for support, advice and favors.
4) What are your Skills and Strengths ? What are all the ways those differentiators are relevant and add value? Think creatively and broadly.
5) What is your unique Story that sums up where you’ve been, who you are, and where you want to go?
New tires improve the performance of your vehicle. Share how re-tiring is improving the performance of you.
