Why High-Performers Need Coaches
This summer, I’ve been absorbed by all the leadership lessons exhibited in the Paralympics. In particular, the relationship between the visually-impaired athletes and their sighted running guides inspires me.
Sighted running guides must:
Be on top of their own running game, even though they aren’t the one competing
Be a good fit for the athlete, partnered in trust
Speed up or slow down based on the athlete’s performance in that moment
Guide the athlete comfortably and in perfect lockstep
Encourage the athletes to go farther or faster than they may think possible
Cross the finish line behind the athlete
This is an elegant analog for the relationship between executives and executive coaches. An effective executive coach is like a sighted running guide.
If you’re a premier athlete at your job and want to go farther, faster with a guide, contact me. I offer a complimentary session to understand your goals and provide the opportunity for you to assess fit.
